Health Promotion Officer

The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a student to operate as a Health Promotion Officer.
The student will be able to carry out basic assessments of communities, households, groups, and
individuals; provide health education and referrals for various services; and assist individuals in
navigating the health and social services system.
Health Promotion Officers play a vital role in improving public health by promoting awareness,
prevention, and support for healthier living within communities.

1. Conduct assessments of the social, physical, and economic dynamics in communities.
2. Conduct household assessments and identify individuals or families at risk of health-related issues.
3. Provide information, education, and support for healthy behaviours and appropriate home care.
4. Provide psychosocial support to individuals and households.
5. Identify and manage minor health problems within the scope of practice.
